Islamabad: Members of the federal cabinet called the “Khojaly genocide” in Azerbaijan in 1992 a historian crime against humanity.
Speaking at a seminar on the 30th anniversary of the genocide organized by the MUSLIM Institute, a think tank and the Azerbaijani embassy in Islamabad, minister for Food security and research Syed Fakhar Imam and minister for Economic Affairs Omar Ayub Khan said Pakistan has always been in feet with Baku against illegal actions of Armenia.
“Pakistan and Azerbaijan are two Islamic brothers countries which are closely related to each other in the spirit of Islam, “the Imam said in a statement issued by the MUSLIM Institute.
Khan said the relations between the two countries they are based on mutual trust and Pakistan has always given full moral and diplomatic support in Azerbaijan without any interest in war caused from the illegal occupation of Armenia of Nagorno-Karabakh.
“Pakistan has always supported the principled position of Azerbaijan on Nagorno-Karabakh, this is why Pakistan has not recognized Armenia to date. This position of Pakistan is in fact in line with ideas of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, “he said.
The seminar was also in the presence of the Turkish ambassador in Pakistan Ihsan Mustafa Yurdakul, ambassador of Azerbaijan Khazar Farhadov, the President of the MUSLIM Institute Sahibzada Sultan and the Vice Chancellor of the Quaid-e-Azam University, the professor Muhammad Ali Shah.
The speakers also urged the international community to act against the authors of a 1992 massacre carried on out by the Armenian forces in Khojaly, Nagorno-Karabakh che left more of 600 people dead.
On February 26, 1992, with the Soviet Union just Armenian forces dissolved took control of the city of Khojaly in occupied Karabakh after striking it with heavy artillery and tanks, assisted by infantry.
The massacre is seen as one of the bloodiest atrocities of the Armenian forces against Azerbaijani civilians in the Karabakh region which was liberated by Azerbaijani forces in November 2020 after decades of occupation.
The two-hour Armenian offensive killed 613 Azerbaijani citizens, including 106 women63 children and 70 elderly and seriously injured another 487, according to Azerbaijan data.
About 150 of 1,275 Azeris captured by the Armenians during the massacre remain missing.
Eight families were completely wiped out via out while 130 children lost one relative 25 children lost both parents.
